Divinity 2: Ego Draconis: Preview

There are not so many good fantasy RPG lines in the gaming industry – any first-grader could count them with the help of his fingers. Baldur’s Gate, The Elder Scrolls, Neverwinter Nights, Diablo, Fallout – that’s all, actually. It’s all the more pleasant when a new series with a unique concept and role-playing component is formed in the genre right before your eyes. But it’s not so easy to stand out among the same type of fairy tales a la “The Lord of the Rings”. Divine Divinity, released in 2002, succeeded. It’s difficult to say why, it’s easier to determine what, in spite of. For example, contrary to the banal plot about the confrontation between a certain Cult of the Damned and the Divine Being. The creature, as usual, could not cope with the followers of all evil spirits, but, dying, appointed three mortals as the saviors of the universe. It’s clear that they saved the world, however, they missed some little things. Otherwise, pray tell, where will the developers get the premise for the sequel??

Because now we know absolutely for sure, from official sources: the second part of Divine Divinity will be. No doubt, we already guessed that a sequel would definitely follow, but until recently developers got off with vague phrases about a mysterious project for modern consoles and PCs. We don’t know why they suddenly took pity on the fans waiting for news: either the PR department decided to start an advertising campaign, or ordinary human feelings, like compassion, took over, but the fact remains: the first detailed preview of Divinity 2: Ego Draconis was published in German PC Games.

As mentioned above, the Nonukcasinosites.co.uk/review/xtraspin-casino/ first part of the line was not distinguished by its original plot, let alone the sequel, which traditionally loses in plot to the original. The events of the past, described in Divine Divinity, devastated Rivellon, almost turning it into a scorched desert, but evil fate was not enough. The dark forces, seemingly destroyed by the governors of the Divine Being, actually simply lay low, accumulating strength. One day, far from perfect, the creatures will come out into the wild and begin to complete what they started, and the time for this significant event is inexorably approaching. Of course, there is a chance to once again save the long-suffering world, and it will be given to the hero under our control. The latter, by the way, will make a long journey: from the “ordinary” (and really, just think!) dragon hunter to lord, whose orders the fire-breathing creatures carry out unquestioningly.

When generating a character, after playing with appearance and gender, you have to decide on the class. The choice is small and familiar – warrior, mage, tramp (read, thief), but it should be taken into account that the developers have provided many intermediate categories and options for their development when leveling up. Moreover, it will be possible to mix different skills and abilities with each other, and in different proportions. What will happen as a result of such a unique chemistry is not specified, but we modestly believe that the result will be a unique role-playing system that will resonate in RPGs of the future for a long time.

A good game cannot do without a maximally realistic universe, where everything is interconnected, where every action creates a “wave” of consequences, where there are countless ways out of any situation, and they all have their pros and cons. Immoral actions will make life easier at a particular moment, but may come back to haunt you in the future; kindness and responsiveness will cause a lot of trouble, but grateful people (and non-humans) will subsequently make it easier to complete this or that quest. The developers of Fable 2 promise us something similar, but they have much more resources at their disposal! We can only cross our fingers and wish that the reduced budget does not affect the final result.

But graphically Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, alas, is not pleasing. A three-dimensional picture is very good, but in the twenty-first century it is customary to supplement it with high-quality textures, carefully constructed models (or better yet, made using motion capture technology) and detailing of the smallest objects. You won’t see all this in the screenshots posted by the developers on the Internet. But the release is scheduled for spring next year, so developers still have enough time to polish imperfections.

Enjoy all the delights of the original RPG from Larian Studios Both PC and Xbox 360 owners will be able to. If previously multi-platform projects were rarely distinguished by originality and high quality, now more and more often we are buying discs that equally satisfy both “console players” and fans of personal computers. We hope that Divinity 2: Ego Draconis will join the ranks of such wonderful games.
