I want to share my experience of how I decided to distinguish my brand from others in order to increase visibility and improve search results. For those who have already encountered this, there will probably be no new information. But for the unsuspecting it may be interesting. I warn you, there will be a lot of words, and even more letters!
It all started when my dad asked me: “How can I find your video in YouTube?». It turned out to be much easier to find me by the name of the game than by the developer. Then I thought that this need has finally begun, which needs to be solved somehow. Spoiler – it should have been solved much earlier.
I puzzled over the name for a long time, especially when registering a domain for the site – I wanted it to be short and use my last name. All sorts of familiar ru, com, org, io and so on were already taken, but I liked the ending on space – because I like the mystery of space, and in general its little exploration. I was lucky with the name for public pages – I managed to register the same thing everywhere. But the final name never came to mind – in the end I continued to use my last name.
When I was developing one of the games, it so happened that I created the soundtrack for it much earlier and generally in a hurry. Then I became interested in trying to place it on streaming platforms, purely for experience. And it made me laugh that I would become a musician for the game before I released the game itself and became its developer. But this only increased the number of further problems.

It was not difficult to update information on social networks – everything was done promptly. I also decided to start maintaining a set of stickers and emojis for telegram, which will contain a link to me. I decided to start with VK Play. In the control panel, of course, I did not find a way to change the name myself, in fact, as well as a link to support. As a result, I contacted the official community for game developers in telegram. There, after 3 minutes, they told me how to find the necessary chat in VK Play and there leave your request to the moderators to change the name. I found this chat, where to write, I figured it out, I wrote. After 7 minutes they told me that everything had been changed, please check. Everything has been updated everywhere, great, let’s move on.
I decided to continue with RuStore. There in the developer console, in the general information section, there is a hint that to change general information about the developer, write to. I see, I emailed you, just in case I attached screenshots of my profile and VK ID. Here, too, after 7 minutes they told me that everything was ready, the name had been changed. Everything was fine in the developer console. But on the public pages of the app store there was an old name. About 30 minutes later everything changed – most likely the cache was updated for the static being sent.
Then I took up Google Play Console. Sometimes I have a whole problem logging into it, I’ve already contacted the provider with requests – they said that they couldn’t help, they cut off the connection on the other side, so it works intermittently. If you’re interested, I’m coming from Moscow, ISP MGTS, and the same problem with the site itself Google Play. So, let’s go back to changing the name – here everything turned out to be much simpler. Updated the developer information and clicked save. The name was sent for review by moderators and it’s true that several days have already passed, but for now the old name is used.
Further for distribution I used Xiaomi GetApps, as a solo developer. But they decided to fight… probably because moderation is very bad at checking applications for theft? In general, now you need to be a corporate entity – okay, just in case, I submitted a request through support to change the account type, which lasts 1-2 business days. But still, the current name needs to be changed! I changed everything in the developer information section and saved it. I also received a verification message within 1-2 business days. The next day I received a refusal, now I need to register again and they no longer service old accounts. It’s sad, of course, because there were more installations there than in Google Play, but there’s nothing to be done.
I also use Huawei AppGallery. The developer console here is quite cumbersome and covers all the company’s services, which is why it seems very confusing, despite the fact that it is in Russian, unlike the previous one. As a result, I found the very necessary section with the name of the developer for Android, but I came across a similar prompt about contacting support. And not in free form, as in RuStore, and in a separate section with a bunch of sub-items to find the right place to ask for help. After a few minutes of searching, I left a request… here it’s called a work order. So, the system has received a work order, and support service specialists will process this work order as soon as possible. If anything, this combination was used five times in a three-line email. The next day I received an email that the work order was being processed. At the moment there is no result, but I hope they will do everything, since there were more installations here than in Google Play And Xiaomi GetApps taken together.
But that’s not all! I posted music on streaming platforms. And there I want to not only change the name of the artist, but also the name of the album and songs in it, in order to add a mark to the OST from the game. True, I didn’t find how it should look correctly, but I probably saw it in four different versions in other compositions. Let’s go back to the distributor – at that moment my choice fell on ONErpm. After looking at the FAQ in my profile, I realized that everything needs to be done through support requests, with separate ones for the artist and the name of the album with the compositions. Here the support responds very differently, in previous requests I waited for an answer for about a week. In the new game I really want to work on the soundtrack, and most likely I will change the distributor, since problems with withdrawal of funds have begun, although I don’t know who to choose yet.
Instead of a conclusion I want to give advice to all those who are just starting out – it’s probably better to decide on the brand name in advance, so as not to waste time later on all this boring routine. Yes, it is very important, but not as interesting as the development of the game itself! Although maybe there was no need to bother with the change. For example, I have a TV on the wall at home, with a SONY, but the full name of the company is much longer.
