Preface.
Good day, friends. Today I went to see a film that was released today (August 23) and in the rest of the world it comes out on September 27. Its name is “Parallel Worlds”, but our translators already called it that. The original name is “Upside down”, that is, “Upside down”. But for the ears of the Russian viewer, “Parallel Worlds” is more harmonious, and it suits the film better.
I went with a girl, suspecting that I wouldn’t see much action in the film. And I turned out to be right – this is a melodrama. So if you suddenly get together to see this film with friends, you can give up this idea, for the company the film will be boring, but hugging a girl is the best.
A little about the plot.
In the universe discussed in the film, twin planets revolve around the sun. Each with its own gravity, with its own inhabitants (only people, don’t expect aliens). The "Upper World" is rich and prosperous. It prospers at the expense of the “Lower World”, from where the powerful corporation “Upper” draws minerals, buying them cheap, and sells electricity and other much-needed vital resources at exorbitant prices. Ordinary residents of the “Upper” and “Lower” worlds are strictly forbidden to contact each other, and objects, having got from one world to another, behave extremely unstable, become heated, ignite and can even explode. Such objects are called "antimatter" in both worlds.
There are two main characters: https://sisalcasino.co.uk/ Eden (played by Kirsten Dunst) and Adam (Jim Sturgess). Their story begins from childhood. He is an orphan raised by his aunt, she is the daughter of the president of the corporation. One day they meet at the junction of worlds, fall in love and meet secretly. But this is some kind of interpretation of “Romeo and Juliet”, which is why the lovers fail. Some “watchers” noticed that they were meeting and interrupted these very meetings. During the accident, during this incident, Eden receives a concussion and loses his memory..
10 years pass. Adam considers Eden dead, and she doesn’t remember him, but sometimes she has strange dreams, echoes of memory. Adam is working on an anti-aging mask, which contains some “pink pollen” – a product of the work of unusual bees. This pollen belongs to both worlds at the same time, and therefore has “magical properties”.
One day, Adam sees Eden on TV, goes crazy with happiness and rushes headlong to get a job at a corporation. But he was disappointed: after many tricks to make their meeting take place, she did not remember him..
I won’t describe the plot further, anyone interested will have a look. Whoever is not there will forget everything.
About the film in general.
The film itself is very beautiful, the director’s presentation of the interaction between two worlds is interesting. But still, more attention was paid to this aspect – the atmosphere, and the plot was pushed back a little; it turned out to be crumpled, but not without drama.
The actors, by the way, did a good job. Kristen Dunst is gentle, sweet, beautiful and pleasant. But Jim Sturgess, it seemed to me, did not play very confidently, well, maybe I’m being picky.
Summing up.
The film should only be watched with a girl (if you are a guy) or with a friend (if you are a girl), because watching the film alone will not be interesting, and only the atmosphere and the view of inverted worlds can attract.
